UK Hand Registry

The BSSH has developed a web-based hand surgery audit tool called the 'UK Hand Registry' and is employing a full-time Database Administrator to oversee the Registry.
This audit tool will allow surgeons to audit their outcomes with minimal effort and compare their own results with the aggregated results from all BSSH members. Surgeons are encouraged to use their outcome data to inform their own appraisal and continuing professional development.
The UK Hand Registry currently have 5 pathways set up for auditing the following procedures:
- Carpal Tunnel
- Dupuytrens Contracture
- Trauma
- Elective Hand (which includes Basal Thumb, Ulnar Nerve and Implants)
- Congenital Hand
You will be able to:
- Set up an audit for a specific procedure for your own patients with defined start and finish points
- Add the patient's ID details, operation date and type of procedure into the website
- Send (electronically) all PROMs, both preoperative and post-operative, directly to the patient for entry into the UK Hand Registry
- Use the website to track the scores, analyse the data and make comparisons against the aggregate data for all BSSH members
This resource is available, free of charge, to all BSSH members and anyone working within hand surgery.
Further information regarding the two-step authentication process can be found here.

Patient Self Registration

What is Patient Self Registration?
Patient Self Registration is a process whereby a link and QR code has been created that takes the patient into the Patient Portal in self-registration mode. The patient picks their clinician and enters their demographic details into the UK Hand Registry. After entering their demographic details they will then accept the Patient Consent Form and answer their preop PROMs.
The Patient Self Registry link can be found in the Patient area on the BSSH website, via the link or by scanning a QR code. You can request a handy printed card displyaing the QR code to keep for easy access during patient consultations.

Why would a consultant want to adopt using Patient Self Registration?
By using Patient Self Registration, this would save the Consultant time in the initial setting up of his/her patients in the UK Hand Registry. It also assures that your patient is completing their preop PROMs at the same time.
How would a consultant start implementing Patient Self Registration?
If you would like to start using Patient Self Registration in your practice, email secretariat@bssh.ac.uk letting us know that you wish to start using Patient Self Registration. Once this has been completed, all that a Consultant needs to do is explain it to their patient and provide them with the link or QR Code to the Patient Portal.
It is important to note that when your patient first logs in they will have to choose which pathway to enter their details in to. This is what they will see:

*At this time, the BSSH have made a decision not to include the Trauma Pathway or the Congenital Hand Pathway for Patient Self Registration.
