Sri Lanka
Project Lead: Chrishan Mariathas
Mission Lead: Martin Wood
Summary
Sri Lanka is in a phase of rapid development, both economically and from a medical viewpoint. Orthopaedic and Plastic surgical training and specialisation have been well established for some time, but hand surgery as it’s own sub-speciality has not previously had a forum or agenda.
Currently the Sri Lankan hand society is being formed under the wing of the Sri Lankan Orthopaedic society. The BSSH are looking to provide support to them establishing the hand society. A trip is being planned in October 2021 to support a hand surgery plenary session at the Sri Lankan Orthopaedic society annual meeting, as well being involved operatively with a selection of complex cases to augment the educational impact.
