The Education and Training Committee is looking to recruit three new members and expressions of interest are invited from BSSH Full and Associate Members.
One position is for an immediate start at the September 2021 committee (24th September) for a period of three years.
The other two positions run from March 2022 – September 2024. To maintain the current committee membership balance, we require two plastic surgeons and an orthopaedic surgeon.
The Committee comprises a Chair person, the BSSH President and Honorary Secretary, Council representative, the Chair of the Hand Training Interface Group, a patient representative and 6 elected members. In addition, there is a BOTA and a PLASTA representative. The Committee meets twice a year in March and September.

The remit of the Education and Training Committee is to further the education and training agenda of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand. This means the inception, development, promotion and maintenance of activities related to continuing, professional development both of trainees and established consultant surgeons.
Committee activities include the annual award of the Stack Travelling Fellowship, Educational Grant, Education and Travel Bursaries, Medical Student Elective Bursaries and an Educational Presentation Prize. The Committee actively supports, but does not run, the Hand Diploma or the BSSH Instructional Courses.
Projects the Committee are currently working on include:
- Coaching and mentoring for hand surgeons programme
- Inaugural BSSH Travelling Fellowship taking place September 2021
- Developing training materials for allied health professionals
The following credentials are required:
- Full or Associate membership of the Society
- A demonstrable interest in education and training
- An enthusiasm to actively participate in education projects as encouraged by the committee
