BSSH Autumn Scientific Meeting 2022

Jonathan Hobby and David Warwick will be hosting this year's meeting  in the ancient capital of England; home to a world-famous cathedral, Britain’s oldest college and the most desirable place to live in the UK. To make up for the lost meetings during the pandemic, the meeting will be 3 days long rather than two running from midmorning on Wednesday 12 October to Friday afternoon on 14 October. 

Winchester is very easy to reach - on the mainline from London, Birmingham, Manchester and just 10 minutes from Southampton airport. 

Guest speakers include Kevin Chung from Michigan. We will have a reception in King Alfred the Great’s Great Hall on the Wednesday evening, followed by your own pick of restaurants in Winchester - a huge choice. Then on Thursday night we will have a Street Food party with the jersey Boys band for dancing. Meeting themes will include 'How late is too late- flexor repair, mallet finger, scapholunate repair, etc.', 'Mindfulness, health coaching and hand therapy', 'Let’s use evidence and common sense to save money', 'Your BSSH: Diversity and Inclusiveness', and 'Your green BSSH', as well as 'Safe perioperative care- the evidence', 'Hand rejuvenation’, and 'Nerve gaps’,

Abstract Submission 

We are accepting abstract submissions for this meeting to present as a free paper or poster. 

Abstract submission instructions

Please note, we have removed the option of submitting an abstract in a topic as the review committee will place the abstract in the programme based on the content

• The language of this meeting is English
• Abstract title must not exceed 30 words
• Abstracts must not exceed 300 words
• Please write the title of the abstract in sentence case
• Tables, graphs or other graphic elements will not be accepted, and should not be included in the abstract
• It is recommended that the following headings are used when submitting abstracts:
  Aims
  Methods
  Results
  Conclusions
• An introduction should not be included unless essential
• If this is a 'case report' or 'point of technique' please state this in the title. Remember if it falls into this category it may be better submitted as a poster.

Please add the Senior Author as the last Author on your abstract submission as there is no tick box for this

Please state that they are a 'Senior' in the Position field.

Drinks Reception 

The BSSH will be hosting a drinks reception at The Great Hall Winchester, where we will have the The Band and Bugles of The Rifles perform.

One of the finest surviving medieval aisled halls of the 13th century which was once part of the magnificent Winchester Castle. The castle was founded in 1067 by William the Conqueror shortly after his victory at the Battle of Hastings. In 1222 Henry III, with his love of architecture, began the construction of one of the earliest Gothic styled medieval halls. Admire the soaring Purbeck marble columns and beautiful Gothic pointed archways.

BSSH Society Social Event 

The Society dinner will be held at The Guildahall, Winchester. Thursday 13 October, come along and enjoy a selection of street food stands and live music. 

Those who are attending for the whole meeting will receive a ticket to the society dinner included in their registration except Medical students and Senior/Honorary members.
