About BSSH Instructional Courses

BSSH runs a rolling three-year programme of Instructional Courses in Hand Surgery at Manchester. These biannual two-day courses are comprehensive and over a three-year cycle cover the entire spectrum of surgery of the hand, wrist and peripheral nerves of the upper limb. The faculty comprises intercontinental speakers as well as British and other European speakers.

The third series finishes in June 2007 and the fourth series begins in January 2008. Participants who complete a sequence of six courses will receive a certificate of attendance. The courses are given in English and are aimed at surgeons and trainees from Britain and other European countries.hands image.jpg

Each course imparts the core of hand surgery at the level of the surgeon in training, and an authoritative update for Continuing Professional Development. The faculty for each course will include leading figures known for their clinical practice in the specific areas covered, and will offer authoritative current opinion at an advanced level within their area of specialisation. The courses will thus contain comprehensive coverage based on the syllabus outlined by FESSH and IFSSH as well as supplying the latest information and current thinking in each topic.

In addition to the didactic and instructional content, the courses have a discussion period attached to every session to allow moderated and adequate discussion of the topics. Participation of the delegates is also encouraged in the clinical case discussion sessions and round-table discussions. A quiz with prizes is held on the final day of each course.
